Sole R.S. Days of 2020 a great success at Le Castellet

Renault Sports’ only R.S. Days event of 2020 was a huge success earlier this month. Held alongside the French FFSA Circuits Championship at the company’s ‘home’ track, the Paul Ricard Circuit at Le Castellet, the event over the weekend of October 3 and 4 took on special significance as it celebrated both the 25th anniversary of the iconic Renault Spider and the launch of the new Mégane R.S. TC4 Track Car.

The launch of the latter – which combines the expertise of R.S. Performance with the racing experience of private Swiss team Vuković Motorsport and its WTCR Méganes – naturally drew much of the attention, both by the many people participating in the event live and those watching on social media platforms.

The Spider, meanwhile, was superbly represented in the Renault Sport Club Village, where owners display their own R.S. car in a specially reserved area before joining an exclusive circuit parade. Almost 300 people took part in the village display showing off 120 cars, of which 20 were vintage Spiders.

Out on the track itself, Renault Sport was the only manufacturer to drive production cars over the course of the weekend. The 160 owner-drivers and their friends pushed their 90 cars to the limit on the circuit’s famed Mistral straight and the Double-Droit du Beausset corner as part of the Track Sessions package. Cars on show included the Mégane R.S, Mégane R.S Trophy-R and the Mégane R.S TC3, forebear of the new TC4.

Despite the challenging current world circumstances and strict social distancing guidelines, the event attracted more participants than last year’s R.S. Days at the same circuit, with all participants enjoying a great weekend of racing and total immersion in the world of Renault Sport.
